Then yes, when we say Auckland we, first of all, think about this big <strong>cosmopolitan<\/strong> metropolis representing the biggest urban and populated area of \u200b\u200bthe country, and we will ansewer that it is totally correct. Yes, but that&#8217;s not all! It is also a set of <strong>districts<\/strong> forming a beautiful area that we will try to visit at best, let&#8217;s go !<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1204\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-city.jpg\" alt=\"Auckland city\" width=\"970\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-city.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-city-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-city-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Matakana<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>As we begin our journey from the north, our first stop will be a Saturday morning on the famous <strong>farmer&#8217;s market<\/strong> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmatakana.co.nz\/\">Matakana small town<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1188\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Matakana-Auckland-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"Matakana - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Matakana-Auckland-300x203.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Matakana-Auckland-768x519.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Matakana-Auckland-1024x692.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Matakana-Auckland-1184x800.jpg 1184w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A rural place, crossed by a river, where the wood <strong>stands<\/strong> have been skilfully laid out on the <strong>shores<\/strong> and where it is good to stroll. Here, it is <strong>craftsmanship<\/strong> which take precedence, fresh fruit, pastries, soaps and bags, it all accompanied by <strong>musicians<\/strong>, we can say that the place doesn&#8217;t lack for <strong>charm<\/strong>.<br \/>\nWe walked around it with great pleasure despite the number of visitors, but we didn&#8217;t break our &#8220;piggy bank&#8221;, because yes this <strong>fancy rural<\/strong> touch has a price. Aside from that, it&#8217;s hard to find anything else to do here, except perhaps for\u00a0<strong>oenology<\/strong> lovers.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>West coast<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>\u00a0Piha<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1180\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Piha-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Piha - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Piha-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Piha-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Piha-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Piha-1067x800.jpg 1067w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Our day mission was to discover the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piha.co.nz\/\">beautiful <strong>black sand<\/strong> beach<\/a> of Piha at low tide.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indeed, in order to take full advantage of the <strong>wild<\/strong> environment, we wanted to climb the <strong>Taitomo island<\/strong>, or &#8220;Camel rock&#8221; located south of the beach and accessible <strong>only<\/strong> when the sea is at the <strong>lowest<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was a picturesque and <strong>exhilarating<\/strong> discovery, despite of the sea wind, the\u00a0 island summit reveals a magnificent landscape, <strong>overlooking<\/strong> the surfers and unveiling the whole beach and its &#8220;<strong>Lion rock<\/strong>&#8221; which we climbed next. For us, the point of view is well worth the <strong>climb<\/strong> ! On the way to the island, you can also discover a <strong>breach<\/strong> in the rock crossed by the sea and wind, there we can feel the elements <strong>power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Piha is, in our view, a <strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0 in \u200b\u200bAuckland area, an extensive beach preserved and wild, <strong>beautiful<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Kitekite falls<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1178\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite-159x300.jpg\" alt=\"Kitekite - Auckland\" width=\"159\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite-159x300.jpg 159w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite-768x1446.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite-544x1024.jpg 544w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite-425x800.jpg 425w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/kitekite.jpg 1396w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 159px) 100vw, 159px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>At 5 minutes drive from Piha beach, it is possible to take a small path that will lead you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piha.co.nz\/kitekite-falls\/\">Kitekite <strong>waterfall<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It takes 30 minutes to reach the falls from the parking.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A nice walk well maintained along the <strong>river<\/strong> through the forest wich end at the waterfall base. The place is rather nice, and although the waterfall is not extraordinary the water flows in <strong>3 floors<\/strong>, which makes it charming. In addition, it is possible to <strong>swim<\/strong> there in summer, which is quite cool.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong> Karekare<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Our next step was to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz\/karekare\">Karekare beach and waterfall<\/a>. We had a picnic on the beach, but after Piha we must admit that we have not been transcended, this <strong>long stretch<\/strong> of sand appeared to us well exposed and <strong>deserted<\/strong>. Maybe the surfers will find their happiness there, also there are a multitude of <strong>hikes<\/strong> departures longer or shorter that look very nice. As for the waterfall, the <strong>ridiculous<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t kill&#8230; We didn&#8217;t find it ! There was no sign, no description of the <strong>applications<\/strong> and the 3 different people we met and questioned didn&#8217;t even heard about a waterfall there. So we didn&#8217;t waste any more time and we headed towards our next stop.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1177\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Bethells-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Bethells - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Bethells-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Bethells-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Bethells-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Bethells-1067x800.jpg 1067w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Bethells Beach<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We <strong>wandered<\/strong> on the pleasant <a href=\"http:\/\/regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz\/tehengabethells\">black beach of Bethells<\/a>, a popular surfing spot (yet), where you can find two hiking trails, one alonging the <strong>coast<\/strong> to Muriwai, the other leading to <strong>Wainamu lake<\/strong> on a path through giant dunes. Still less beautiful than Piha, but nicer than Karekare, this is here that we met the most <strong>people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Muriwai<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Our last stop on Auckland region west coast will be on the <strong>longest<\/strong> beach, <a href=\"http:\/\/regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz\/muriwai\">Muriwai<\/a>, also hotbed of our surfer friends. Once again, we find ourselves facing a <strong>vast expanse<\/strong> of sparkling black sand, nothing exceptional on our view on this side.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1179\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Muriwai-300x249.jpg\" alt=\"Muriwai - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Muriwai-300x249.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Muriwai-768x636.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Muriwai-1024x848.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Muriwai-966x800.jpg 966w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>However, all the interest of this stop was a colony of seabirds called &#8220;Gannet&#8221;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There we can say that we don&#8217;t see this kind of thing every day and we register this show as an <strong>unavoidable<\/strong> of the region. The cliffs have been laid out so that birds can be <strong>observed<\/strong> very closely without impinging on their living space, and what a <strong>space<\/strong> ! It&#8217;s <strong>thousands<\/strong> of birds that come every year to experience their history, encounter, nest making, mating, birth and education of the young, everything happens a few meters from the visitors. It&#8217;s an <strong>incredible<\/strong> spectacle, despite the smell, we can only be <strong>fascinated<\/strong> by the wingspan, the behavior and the precision shown by these great gannets. Elephant&#8217;s Word!<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Auckland city <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Parnell<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We continue on our journey and choose to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parnell.net.nz\/\">Parnell area<\/a> on a <strong>Sunday<\/strong> <strong>morning<\/strong> in order to take advantage of the &#8220;French&#8221; market, then let&#8217;s go to downtown and the <strong>bourgeois<\/strong> districts to stroll along the stands of &#8220;La Cigale&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1191\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Lookout-Auckland.jpg\" alt=\"Lookout - Auckland\" width=\"970\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Lookout-Auckland.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Lookout-Auckland-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Lookout-Auckland-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even if the place is decorated with our <strong>French flag<\/strong> colors, we find mainly cosmopolitan food, but also wine, <strong>overpriced<\/strong> cheese and bakeries. The location was <strong>crowded<\/strong> and after Matakana, we didn&#8217;t find a lot of interest there.<br \/>\nAfter we offered us the luxury of a Turkish meal and a <strong>croissant coffee<\/strong> (yes we did), we decided to walk\u00a0 through Parnell, discovering this bourgeois fief to <strong>colonial-style<\/strong> villas imprints of history and <strong>wealth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1193 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-domain-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Auckland Domain\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-domain-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-domain-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-domain-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Auckland-domain.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Auckland Domain<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>It&#8217;s walking from Parnell that we decided to push our visit, this time heading to the <strong>big<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/int\/feature\/auckland-domain\/\">Auckland Domain<\/a> <strong>park<\/strong>. No less than <strong>75 hectares<\/strong> of green space in the heart of the city it&#8217;s, of course, the largest, but also the <strong>oldest<\/strong> park in Auckland. It houses numerous artistic sculptures as well as the &#8220;<strong>memorial war<\/strong>&#8221; museum.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Mont Eden<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1198\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Mt-Eden-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Mt Eden - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Mt-Eden-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Mt-Eden-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Mt-Eden-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Mt-Eden.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We will finish our loop on the <strong>inevitable<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mounteden.co.nz\/find-us\">Mount Eden<\/a>, which was once a very active volcano. The walk takes us around the <strong>huge crater<\/strong> and reveals a panorama over the whole city and its two bays. A small ascent for a <strong>memorable<\/strong> view.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sky-tower-Auckland-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Sky tower - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sky-tower-Auckland-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sky-tower-Auckland-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sky-tower-Auckland.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Sky tower<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Because it seems necessary to pass there, as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skycityauckland.co.nz\/attractions\/sky-tower\/\"><strong>symbol<\/strong> of Auckland<\/a>, and<br \/>\ninevitable during the discovery of the city center. This tower is the <strong>tallest<\/strong> building in New Zealand, but also in the entire southern hemisphere. People can make a <strong>bungee jump<\/strong> or simply pay for a walk above the <strong>void<\/strong> on the tower periphery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f8ac00;\"><strong>Devonport<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1202\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/North-head-Auckland-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"North head - Auckland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/North-head-Auckland-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/North-head-Auckland-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/North-head-Auckland-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/North-head-Auckland.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This is the area where we resided during our visit. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitdevonport.co.nz\/\">A quiet <strong>neighborhood<\/strong> <\/a>with typical <strong>Victorian<\/strong> houses. It&#8217;s very nice to come and take a walk there, however it is useless to make the detour if you are not in the vicinity.\u00a0<strong>Mount Victoria<\/strong> and <strong>North Head<\/strong> are the key points, embued by history, with old <strong>tunnels<\/strong> and bunkers used by the Navy to defend the bay.
