We reassure you Rotorua is not only known for its mountain bike trails, it&#8217;s also a health resort with multitudes of <a href=\"http:\/\/fr.onceuponatripnz.com\/decouvrez-la-nouvelle-zelande\/articles\/geothermie-en-nz\"><strong>geotherma<\/strong><\/a>l events and a city imprinted by <strong>Maori<\/strong> culture.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Government gardens<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1270\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Museum-5-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Museum - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Museum-5-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Museum-5-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Museum-5.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>With the free <strong>camping<\/strong> parking right next door, that was natural to start our discovery of the places by a walk in the &#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoruanz.com\/live\/inner-city\/government-gardens-precinct\">government gardens<\/a>&#8220;<\/strong> park. We discovered there the first geothermal <strong>events<\/strong> in addition to the, very present, rotten egg <strong>odor<\/strong>.\u00a0After a hundred meters, we face a huge building which imposes as much by its <strong>scale<\/strong> as by its atypical architecture, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoruamuseum.co.nz\/\"><strong>Rotorua Museum<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Unfortunately, we will not have the chance to <strong>visit<\/strong> this one, because it&#8217;s closed until further notice in order to answer at anti-seismic new standards.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Maori Buildings<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1269 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maori-buildings-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Maori buildings - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maori-buildings-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Maori-buildings-1.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Along the <strong>shores<\/strong> of the lake, we headed to the <strong>Anglican<\/strong> church surrounded by Maoris buildings. <strong>Sacred<\/strong> area, between clouds of vapor, rising from the ground almost everywhere, we can observe the various red wood <strong>carvings<\/strong> adorning these constructions framework. Just beside, a bubbling water source gurgling on our passage releasing a humid <strong>heat<\/strong> almost pleasant by winter weather.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">Kuirau park<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1268\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kuirau-park-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Kuirau park - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kuirau-park-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Kuirau-park-1.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Right next to the city center, fans of geothermal <strong>activities<\/strong> will have to visit. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoruanz.com\/visit\/see-and-do\/geotherm\/kuirau-park-(1)\">Kuirau Park<\/a> is a <strong>beautifully landscaped<\/strong> area that provides free and safe access to the countless <strong>volcanic<\/strong> activities that run through it. Thus, it is possible to take paths and wood footbridges lined with <strong>informative<\/strong> panels on the different <strong>phenomena<\/strong> in front of us. Legend Maori around the smoking lake, sound of the <strong>bubbling mud<\/strong> bubbles, smelly vapors, there are also basins arranged to soak its feet in the naturally warm water. This gives a good idea of \u200b\u200bthe <strong>abundance<\/strong> of these acitivities in the region.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>City center<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The downtown is not remarkable, there are many shops, including jewelry shops specializing in the carve of <strong>jade stone<\/strong> for the making of the traditional Maori jewel the &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pounamu\">Pounamu<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;. There is also a night market every Thursday night from 5 pm, but unfortunately we can not say more about this because of the rain which was there the day we wanted to go, and it was canceled.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Hamurana springs<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1273\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sans-titre-1-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Hamurana springs - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sans-titre-1-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Sans-titre-1-1.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>To the Lake Rotorua north-east, you can take a small <strong>path<\/strong> full of charms, going along and crossing the river, where the <strong>water<\/strong> birds abound, to reach the <strong>deepest<\/strong> source of water on the northern island, <strong>Hamurana.<\/strong> The walk takes us along a small pond and then through the giant redwoods <strong>undergrowth<\/strong> before unveiling to us the clear water source and its <strong>blue<\/strong> bottoms. The spectacle is so peaceful and magnificent that it becomes magical. The <strong>colors<\/strong>, the reflections, the green algae wich <strong>dance in the current<\/strong> and the environment make it a place not to be missed, for the eyes pleasure .<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Unfortunately, we just learned that this site is now charged 18 $* per person, which is very sad and highly excessive.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">Okere falls<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1271\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Okere-falls-2-copie-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Okere falls - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Okere-falls-2-copie-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Okere-falls-2-copie.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A small walk along the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kaituna_River\"><strong>Kaituna<\/strong><\/a> River, renowned for its strong current, it is the delight of kayakers and <strong>rafting<\/strong> enthusiasts. The Okere waterfalls are nice to see, the power and <strong>color<\/strong> of the water make it a pleasant walk but not truly exceptional. It&#8217;s possible to swim there when you know the place <strong>well<\/strong>, but it&#8217;s strongly discouraged considering the <strong>power<\/strong> of the current and the frequent passage of kayaks and boats.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">The blue &#038; green lakes<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1267 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Blue-lake-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Blue lake - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Blue-lake-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Blue-lake-1.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>In order to discover the environment around Rotorua, we headed for the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/bay-of-plenty\/places\/lake-tikitapu-scenic-reserve\/things-to-do\/blue-lake-track\/\">blue lake<\/a><\/strong>. It gets its name from the sky <strong>reflections<\/strong> that sometimes run almost perfectly, but you should not expect blue water. A 2-hour loop walk on the outskirts leads to a <strong>lookout<\/strong> where it&#8217;s possible to observe the two lakes, blue and green, from the same point of view. It was a <strong>nice<\/strong> walk, quiet, easy and pleasant.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Redwoods forest &#038; Te Puia geyser\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1272 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Redwoods-forest-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Redwoods forest - Rotorua\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Redwoods-forest-1-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Redwoods-forest-1.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>Impossible to leave Rotorua without taking one of the many <strong>walks<\/strong> of the &#8220;red wood&#8221; forest or <strong>giant sequoia<\/strong> trees. The <strong>ocher<\/strong> hue of these majestic trees becomes almost red when a sunlight ray pierces through the <strong>thickness<\/strong> of the branches that veil, sometimes entirely, the color of the sky. It&#8217;s absolutely <strong>gorgeous<\/strong>, and you can choose to take several perfectly marked trails.<br \/>\nWe took the <strong>yellow<\/strong> path that leads on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tepuia.com\/\">Te Puia<\/a><\/strong> geyser view, this one exploding once an hour so we waited there to witness the <strong>show<\/strong> for free with a beautiful view of the whole city in background.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For those wishing to see the geyser explode from its base, it will cost 66 $ * per person to attend the show.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On our return, before taking the road again, we decided to take the <strong>memorial<\/strong> trail which remains in the undergrowth of the redwoods forest. A <strong>magnificent<\/strong> walk where we feel very small and yet strong, such is the impression that these trees <strong>transmit<\/strong> when we stand by their side.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1274\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Te-puia-geyser-5-copie-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"Te puia geyser - Rotorua\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Te-puia-geyser-5-copie-300x220.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Te-puia-geyser-5-copie.jpg 541w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For those who want to push further, a course of 30mn in wood pontoons has been arranged to discover these giants from another point of view. Walking on it during the day, or at night with carved lantern and colorful spotlights starting at 25$ *.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We enjoyed the <strong>natural wonders<\/strong> of Rotorua without engaging in tourist and sporting activities.
