From there we will take the <strong>ferry<\/strong> to Picton on the South Island to begin the second part of our New Zealand adventure. Once again, we invite you to share our little <strong>journey<\/strong> along the south coast but also to the <strong>capital<\/strong> heart.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1352\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Cape-palliser-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cape palliser_wellington\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Cape-palliser-240x300.jpg 240w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Cape-palliser.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>Cape Palliser<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We must complete the circle, that&#8217;s why after reaching the most notherly point of the North Island, namely the <strong>Cape Reinga\u00a0<\/strong> in the >> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/gb\/northland\/\">Northland <\/a><<, it is quite natural that we chose to <strong>orient<\/strong> ourselves to the southernmost point of the North Island, known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wairarapanz.com\/cape-palliser\">Cape Palliser<\/a>. Once again, it&#8217;s the eyes full of <strong>wonder<\/strong> that we meet this place. Pass pastures, then the pine forest, the white cliffs overlooking the turquoise sea and then push to the <strong>end<\/strong> of the road, where the asphalt becomes gravel, to finally climb the 250 steps to the cape <strong>lighthouse<\/strong>. <strong>Magical<\/strong> seaside landscape, where the view extends to the first snow-capped <strong>peaks<\/strong> of the South Island.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1357\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/phoque-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"phoque_wellington\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/phoque-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/phoque-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/phoque.jpg 562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To add to the <strong>magic<\/strong> of the place, go to the the reserve parking area located 500m before the lighthouse. There, take the time to discover the <strong>rocks<\/strong> by the sea because it&#8217;s here that resides a pretty <strong>colony<\/strong> of wild seals. Here it&#8217;s hundreds of specimens that can be observed in the most <strong>naturally<\/strong> way, a fantastic show in a <strong>sublime<\/strong> decor what could be better ? We loved it !<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\">Putangirua Pinnacles<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Returning on the road from the Cape Palliser, fans of the Lord of the Rings, or simply <strong>geological<\/strong> natural phenomena, will not fail to stop on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/int\/feature\/putangirua-pinnacles-scenic-reserve\/\">Putangirua Pinnacles<\/a> short hike.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1358\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/putangira-pinnacles-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"putangirua pinnacles_wellington\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/putangira-pinnacles-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/putangira-pinnacles-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/putangira-pinnacles.jpg 458w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>It&#8217;s here that we can find pretty <strong>needles<\/strong> of chiselled rocks, giant <strong>stalagmites<\/strong> forming friable points in the <strong>faults<\/strong> hollowed out of the white mountains. A really impressive <strong>phenomenon<\/strong> to see, that we can only advise even just by <strong>curiosity<\/strong> of the thing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It&#8217;s an easy walk of 1h30, we take first the left path to go to the viewpoint overlooking the rock formations, to go down by the river bed at the base of these peaks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For fans, know that this is the natural setting of the white mountains <strong>haunted<\/strong> by Dead Men of Dunharrow in the third <strong>opus<\/strong> of the Lord of the rings saga.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\">Kaitoke Park\u2013\u00a0Rivendell<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1376 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/rivendell-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"rivendell_wellington\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/rivendell-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/rivendell.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>An essential stop for <strong>Tolkien<\/strong>&#8216;s books and P. Jackson&#8217;s movies fans, it&#8217;s in this park that we find the natural <strong>scenery<\/strong> of the <strong>Rivendell<\/strong> Elves forest, the one where Elrond resides. All that remains is a <strong>fictional<\/strong> arch and informative signs in the heart of the park, easily <strong>accessible<\/strong>. Anyway we understand pretty quickly that the <strong>special effects<\/strong> on green background were the rule for the movies.<br \/>\nToday it&#8217;s still a beautiful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gw.govt.nz\/Kaitoke\/\">regional park<\/a> crossed by a <strong>river<\/strong> where it&#8217;s good to swim, and offering many <strong>nice<\/strong> walks and hikes for all tastes.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\">Wellington city<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\">Wellington Museum<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1364\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/wellington-museum-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"wellington-museum\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/wellington-museum-300x228.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/wellington-museum.jpg 615w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>t.\u00a0A <strong>nice<\/strong> free entry museum which has nothing to envy to the paying ones. In addition to being <strong>interesting<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumswellington.org.nz\/wellington-museum\/\">Wellington museum <\/a>has staged various <strong>interactions<\/strong> with its visitors. We are faced with exhibitions and information but also, light <strong>games<\/strong>, sounds, hidden objects in drawers that entertain us and force us to look and grow <strong>curiosity<\/strong> instead of reading passively.<\/p>\n<p>We really enjoyed our &#8220;<strong>participative<\/strong>&#8221; visit in this museum. We had a lot of fun, while we didn&#8217;t expect it, we can only <strong>recommend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\"><strong>Te papa Museum<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1362 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-2-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"te papa museum _wellington\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-2-240x300.jpg 240w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-2.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>A <strong>gigantic<\/strong> space filled with an absolutely <strong>fantastic<\/strong> cultural wealth. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tepapa.govt.nz\/\">Te Papa museum<\/a> contains a mountain of information, exhibitions, treasures and history. On 6 floors, you can spend a good number of hours there to <strong>learn<\/strong> about New Zealand history and culture.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Admission is free, only guided tours are charged 12$ * per person.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What to say about this absolutely\u00a0<strong>surprising<\/strong> place except that it fits as an <strong>inevitable<\/strong> in Wellington. There is so much for all tastes that you will find something to interest you even if you are not too &#8220;museum&#8221;. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1363\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-3-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Te-papa-museum_wellington\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-3-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-3-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Te-papa-museum-3.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We visited it in two times, and were absolutely conquered.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We were particularly amazed by the ephemeral exhibition marking the WWI centenary on the Battle of Gallipoli, absolutely incredible !<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The story of 8 soldiers who were <strong>frozen<\/strong> in action and sculpted at scale 2.4. <strong>Phenomenal<\/strong> status with breathtaking realism. Work done by the Weta workshop, a well-known studio because it created the special effects of lord of the rings, hobbit, king-kong, tintin etc. &#8230;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\"><strong>Victoria Mount<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1356\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mt-victoria-2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mt-victoria_wellington\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mt-victoria-2-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mt-victoria-2-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mt-victoria-2.jpg 335w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Take a short ride or drive on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellingtonnz.com\/discover\/sights-activities\/mount-victoria-lookout\/\">Mount Victoria <\/a>summit to enjoy the <strong>view<\/strong> of the entire Wellington <strong>Bay<\/strong> and the city itself. It&#8217;s also possible to take various paths to enjoy small walks in the large adjacent <strong>park<\/strong>.<br \/>\nA must-see pilgrimage site for the <strong>fans<\/strong> of the Lord of the Rings, it was in this park that the first day of Lord of the rings <strong>filming<\/strong> has been done, it&#8217;s also here that the scene where the Hobbits are hiding from a Nazghul under the roots of a tree <strong>along<\/strong> the road in the first opus was turned. A word to the wise &#8230;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\"><strong>Cable car &#038; botanical gardens<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>A great <strong>classic<\/strong> of the city is to borrow his famous <strong>cable car<\/strong> full of authentic charm.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1354\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/funiculaire-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/funiculaire-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/funiculaire-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/funiculaire.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Count 4$* one way or 7.5$* return for 2 minutes, tops.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We wandered through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wellington.govt.nz\/recreation\/enjoy-the-outdoors\/gardens\/botanic-garden\">botanical gardens<\/a><\/strong> at the terminus, but we confess that we didn&#8217;t use the cable car. On the other hand, we visited his small <strong>museum<\/strong> and entered by chance to the nearby <strong>perfume<\/strong> shop. This is where we had the <strong>pleasure<\/strong> to receive a small free class on classic perfumery <strong>methods<\/strong>. A pleasant and unexpected moment before continuing our walk in the gardens which, in our view, looks more like a big <strong>park<\/strong> in the middle of the city.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\">Parliament &#8211; Beehive<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Between 10:00 and 16:00, every hour, the New Zealand <strong>Government<\/strong> Administration opens its doors to you for a free one hour guided<strong> tour<\/strong> free, in the famous parliament <strong>building<\/strong> whose <strong>architecture<\/strong> looks like a beehive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Introduce yourself 15 mns before the beginning of a visit, and follow the guide that will lead you in the building and provide you with information on both the building itself and the current political system.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A presentation that was a bit long and tedious for us, I guess it depends of the guide too, it remains an interesting <strong>experience<\/strong> that you must not deprive yourself.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #cc9dff;\"><strong>The weta cave<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1365 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Weta-cave-300x274.jpg\" alt=\"Weta-cave_wellington\" width=\"300\" height=\"274\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Weta-cave-300x274.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Weta-cave.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>To all fans of <strong>science fiction<\/strong> and creativity, this tour is for you. These are the <a href=\"http:\/\/wetaworkshop.com\/visit-us\/workshop-tours\/\">studios<\/a> behind the <strong>designs<\/strong> and effects of big blockbusters such as King Kong, ghost in the shell, world of warcraft, ring lords, Tintin, hobbits &#8230;<br \/>\nWe will not lie to you, only the visit of the shop with its <strong>mini-museum<\/strong> and its 30 minutesdocumentary, are free.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you want to visit the studios it will cost you at least 25$* per person, the more you combine the visits the more it will be expensive, up to 145$* per person for the most expensive.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We have just visited the free part, which already gives a glimpse of the technical <strong>skills<\/strong> of these studios which are also at the origin of the Gallipoli Battle <strong>exhibition<\/strong> in Te Papa Museum, absolutely <strong>beautiful<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>(* 2017 rates)<\/strong><\/h6>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We now arrive to the last step of our North Island journey, in Wellington region, home to the same named capital.
