{"id":1412,"date":"2017-12-23T09:02:15","date_gmt":"2017-12-23T08:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/?p=1412"},"modified":"2018-01-31T06:33:07","modified_gmt":"2018-01-31T05:33:07","slug":"tasman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/gb\/tasman\/","title":{"rendered":"Tasman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zrl6Dq7eDt0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p>Unsure of the best way to approach Abel Tasman National Park, one of New Zealand&#8217;s remarkable <strong>beauties<\/strong>, and not wishing to start the <strong>trek<\/strong> for several days, leaving our <strong>baby elephant<\/strong> van behind&#8230; It was in this uncertainty that we found ourselves as woofers in a small farm near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goldenbaynz.co.nz\/directory-takaka.html\"><strong>Takaka<\/strong><\/a>. It was finally from this small village hidden behind an imposing <strong>hill<\/strong> that we had the chance to discover part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tasman.govt.nz\/\">Tasman <\/a>region.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">Rawhiti Cave<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1416\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Rawhiti-cave-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Rawhiti cave - Tasman\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Rawhiti-cave-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Rawhiti-cave.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Our first discovery was an absolutely <strong>impressive<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/nelson-tasman\/places\/takaka-area\/things-to-do\/tracks\/rawhiti-cave-track\/\">cave<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To reach it, that requires 2 km of walking including 1km of a very nice climb, but it&#8217;s really worth the effort.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This <strong>gigantic<\/strong> hole naturally formed in the rock, reveals a ceiling covered with stalactites or rather, for the purists and scientists, with &#8220;<strong>phytokarst<\/strong>&#8221; formations. A rare sight, which leaves speechless. We didn&#8217;t expect to find such a large cave with so many formations, it was a very nice <strong>surprise<\/strong> and a discovery that we can only <strong>recommend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Te Waikoropupu<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1417\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Pupu-springs-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Pupu springs - Tasman\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Pupu-springs-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Pupu-springs.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A nice little walk perfectly arranged between gravels and footbridges to discover the Pupu <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/nelson-tasman\/places\/takaka-area\/te-waikoropupu-springs\/\">Pupu springs<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The largest New-Zealand&#8217;s freshwater sources.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In order to <strong>preserve<\/strong> the place, it&#8217;s asked to don&#8217;t touch the water, so the only way to appreciate these springs is unically visual. A quiet place, a <strong>crystal<\/strong> clear water and an impressive flow of 14000 liters per second, as evidenced by the speed of the current.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Hydro walkway<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1418\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Hydro-walkway-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Hydro walkway - Tasman\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Hydro-walkway-240x300.jpg 240w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Hydro-walkway.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>As its name indicates, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/nelson-tasman\/places\/kahurangi-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/pupu-hydro-walkway\/\">loop<\/a> takes you along old hydraulic <strong>installations<\/strong>, between <strong>aqueducts<\/strong> and gold mining equipment.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nothing inescapable, however if you are in the area with a little of time in front of you, it remains very nice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The path has been laid out in such a way that we sometimes find ourselves walking on the small concrete edge of the <strong>canal<\/strong> between water and the void. A bit of adventure that is not <strong>displeasing<\/strong>, the rest of the walk is however of limited interest.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Wainui falls<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1420\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wainui-falls-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Wainui falls - Tasman\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wainui-falls-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wainui-falls.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Beautiful <a href=\"http:\/\/waterfalls.co.nz\/waterfalls-by-region\/224-new-zealand-waterfalls\/south-island\/tasman\/abel-tasman-national-park\/254-wainui-falls\">waterfalls <\/a>on the <strong>edge<\/strong> of Abel Tasman National Park, a beautifully landscaped setting and trail. A brand new <strong>footbridge<\/strong> and shores of white rocks where to <strong>bask<\/strong> in the sun to rest and cool off in one of the river <strong>natural<\/strong> pool. The waterfall has a fairly impressive <strong>flow<\/strong>. In fact, you can&#8217;t go to observe it without receiving water spray. A nice place to <strong>discover<\/strong> where you can get some rest on the banks of the river.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Wharariki beach<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>One of the most <strong>famous<\/strong> beaches in New Zealand, some even consider it as the most <strong>beautiful<\/strong> in the country and even one of the most beautiful in the <strong>world<\/strong>. Difficult to estimate. In any case we enjoyed the <strong>picturesque<\/strong> side.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indeed, after you parked on the parking area, you have to cross the <strong>pastures<\/strong> covered with sheep and a small piece of &#8220;bush&#8221; to reach the stretch of white sand. In other words, the walk is more than <strong>typical<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1421\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wharariki-Beach.jpg\" alt=\"Wharariki Beach - Tasman\" width=\"970\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wharariki-Beach.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wharariki-Beach-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Wharariki-Beach-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/>On arrival is an immensity that you discover, sand <strong>dunes<\/strong>, islets of greenery and rock excavated <strong>arches<\/strong> and wild seals. We will not deny that it&#8217;s a pretty awesome landscape.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1423 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Cape-Farewell-e1512940857960.jpg\" alt=\"Cape Farewell - Tasman\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/>Cape Farewell<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk about the northern tip of the South Island, or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cape_Farewell,_New_Zealand\">Cape Farewell<\/a>. We have unfortunately not been <strong>transcended<\/strong> by the place, despite that we can discover a beautiful <strong>arch<\/strong> excavated in the cliff overlooking the sea. There is clearly nothing to see, not even a lighthouse.<\/p>\n<p>No regrets, however, since it was on our way.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\"><strong>Abel Tasman National Park<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>It&#8217;s of fame to discover <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abeltasman.co.nz\/\">the park <\/a>on a several days <strong>trek<\/strong>, a hike for the day by taking <strong>water taxis<\/strong> that take you where you want, or on a guided <strong>tour<\/strong> between kayaking and hiking.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1426 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Phoque-e1512941214561.jpg\" alt=\"Phoque abel tasman\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We opted for one day hike option, by our own. To do it, we drove the track leading to <strong>Totaranui<\/strong> car park, in the middle of the park, and decided to take the walk until &#8220;Separation point&#8221; and return.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A beautiful stroll, between bush and <strong>heavenly<\/strong> beaches that lead to a white rock tip, where the sea currents form a visible separation. This is where we picnicked with the wild seals <strong>ballet<\/strong> and meet our first pygmy (blue) <strong>penguin<\/strong>. A magical moment in an <strong>exceptional<\/strong> setting.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">The coast<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1427\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Abel Tasman\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>To <strong>complete<\/strong> the discovery of the park, we also went to the southern tip of this one by road, to the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Split_Apple_Rock\"><strong>split apple<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; rock. Spherical and divided into two parts, it looks like, effectively, a cut apple.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Beyond this curious rock, the beach which surrounds it is <strong>splendid<\/strong>, wild and almost perfectly <strong>preserved<\/strong>, it&#8217;s nice to swim there and visit the rocky <strong>cavities<\/strong> which border it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1430\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman-2-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"Abel Tasman 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman-2-300x189.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Abel-Tasman-2.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Going south along the coast, it&#8217;s possible to stop on the wide and pleasant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/int\/kaiteriteri\/\"><strong>Kaiteriteri<\/strong> <\/a>beach, take a break in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motuekaonline.org.nz\/about-motueka.html\"><strong>Motueka<\/strong><\/a> to stop at low tide on a ship <strong>wreck<\/strong>, then continue to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapuawharf.co.nz\/\"><strong>Mapua wharf<\/strong><\/a> to end the day with craft beer, fish&#8217;n&#8217;chips and ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>Well, after all, why not ?! In addition, it&#8217;s possible to <strong>jump<\/strong> into the water from the dock, which is rather <strong>fun<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #bbea00;\">Nelson lakes<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1429\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Lac-Rotoiti-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Lac Rotoiti - Tasman\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Lac-Rotoiti-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Lac-Rotoiti.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We will close our road trip in the Tasman region by a hike and a swim in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nelsonlakes.co.nz\/\">St Arnaud<\/a> on <strong>Lake Rotoiti<\/strong>.
