The road first part will reveal the southern end of\u00a0 <strong>Wakatipu<\/strong> Lake before getting lost in the pastures, revealing nothing very remarkable until Te Anau.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1542\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Te-Anau_fiordland-282x300.jpg\" alt=\"Te-Anau_fiordland\" width=\"282\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Te-Anau_fiordland-282x300.jpg 282w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Te-Anau_fiordland.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 282px) 100vw, 282px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>Te anau<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teanau.net.nz\/\">Te Anau<\/a> that we will make a <strong>stop<\/strong> in order to make the necessary refuelings before committing to the Mildford sound road. The weather didn&#8217;t allow us to appreciate the small community and its lake at its fair <strong>value<\/strong>, but we still made a visit to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/teanaubirdsanctuary\">Wildlife<\/a> Center. A small park which gathers some <strong>native<\/strong> birds. A nice idea and a good excuse to intersect with some <strong>species<\/strong> that we had not met yet.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>On the road<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The road from Te Anau to Mildford is, to say the least, a <strong>pleasant<\/strong> one, as long as you are engaged on it early enough to <strong>avoid<\/strong> the tourist buses which stop, inevitably, on the interesting areas.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\">Eglinton Valley<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1545\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Eglington-valley_fiordland-300x135.jpg\" alt=\"Eglington-valley_fiordland\" width=\"300\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Eglington-valley_fiordland-300x135.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Eglington-valley_fiordland.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A minute stop for some photos, and a drone flight above this <strong>huge<\/strong> grassy plain surrounded by <strong>mountains<\/strong>. You can also take the time to walk barefoot and sit there, for a few moments, to taste the <strong>tranquility<\/strong> of the place and feel very small.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1547\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mirror_lakes_fiordland-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mirror_lakes_fiordland\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mirror_lakes_fiordland-250x300.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mirror_lakes_fiordland.jpg 437w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\">Mirror lakes<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Our second stop will be at the level of small <strong>lakes<\/strong>, or rather ponds, well known for offering a perfect <strong>reflection<\/strong> of the mountains overhanging them. Of course, this observation can only be made under the <strong>conditions<\/strong> that the weather is splendid, so the clouds don&#8217;t <strong>hide<\/strong> the mountains, that the little ducks and other birds are not <strong>dabbling<\/strong> at that moment, and that there is a complete absence of wind, breeze or <strong>blowing<\/strong>. We believe in it !<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>Gunn Lake<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1550\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Gunn_lake_fiordland-300x135.jpg\" alt=\"Gunn_lake_fiordland\" width=\"300\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Gunn_lake_fiordland-300x135.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Gunn_lake_fiordland.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A pretty lake surrounded by an almost <strong>enchanted<\/strong> forest, a deep green and covered with <strong>moss<\/strong>, the sounds are sifted and the birds numerous. The walk is not long and it&#8217;s rather <strong>charming<\/strong>. The last DOC campsite before Mildford is at this location, so we had a nice night at the <strong>edge<\/strong> of the trees.<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\">Key summit<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1552\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Key_summit_fiordland-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Key_summit_fiordland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Key_summit_fiordland-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Key_summit_fiordland.jpg 528w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>A hike that climbs to the <strong>top<\/strong> of a mountain and allows to enjoy a view of the surrounding <strong>relief<\/strong>. Beautiful landscapes of peaks and mountains that are reflected in the small ponds hidden in the foamy <strong>vegetation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A walk of 3 hours which is worth a look for who appreciates the hilly environment of this region.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>Ice &amp; Waterfalls<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Several points of view are proposed all along the road, so I will not mention them all. On the other hand, I will talk about the, almost <strong>obligatory<\/strong>, stop at the tunnel entrance. A point <strong>surrounded<\/strong> by mountains covered with <strong>ice<\/strong> and waterfalls. Once again we feel very small here. The lucky ones will be able to encounter the <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nestor_k%C3%A9a\">Keas<\/a>, the New Zealand mountains parrots who <strong>love<\/strong> to chew on all kinds of materials including the plastic from tires and bumpers, by the way !<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1553\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/scenic_drive_fiordland.jpg\" alt=\"scenic_drive_fiordland\" width=\"970\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/scenic_drive_fiordland.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/scenic_drive_fiordland-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/scenic_drive_fiordland-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\">The Chasm<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1554 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/the_chasm_fiordland-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"the_chasm_fiordland\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/the_chasm_fiordland-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/the_chasm_fiordland-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/the_chasm_fiordland.jpg 428w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Before finally reaching Mildford Sound, a setted walk offers, again, a nice <strong>discovery<\/strong>. Between the waterfall and its <strong>powerful<\/strong> river, the rocks have been <strong>artistically<\/strong> and naturally carved in soft and graceful <strong>artworks<\/strong>. The water has then perfectly shaped the rock all in <strong>curves<\/strong> and cavities dug by time. A nice stop for an original and <strong>splendid<\/strong> natural discovery.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>Mildford sound\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1559\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Mildford_sound_fiordland\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland2-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland2.jpg 490w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We finally arrive at the ultimate <strong>goal<\/strong> of this beautiful road, the village of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.milford-sound.co.nz\/\">Mildford Sound<\/a>. Here, there is only the embarrassment of the choice in the discovery of these <strong>flooded mountains<\/strong>, by kayak, helicopter or boat it&#8217;s up to you to see which <strong>offer<\/strong> will suit you the best. We will choose Jucy company at the first offered time departure to avoid the people, and with the basic offer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For 45$* per person we leave for 2 hours of the fiords discovery by boat and breakfast is offered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From there, there is nothing to do but <strong>appreciate<\/strong> the scenery, waterfalls and <strong>wildlife<\/strong> around you enjoying the informative comments of your captain. A <strong>relaxing<\/strong> and beautiful moment, obviously a must !<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1558\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland.jpg\" alt=\"Mildford_sound_fiordland\" width=\"970\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Mildford_sound_fiordland-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #9db8ff;\"><strong>Manapouri lake<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>After our lovely fiord&#8217;s <strong>cruise<\/strong> in Mildford Sound, it was only natural that we headed back to Te Anau. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1562\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Waterfall_fiordland-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Waterfall_fiordland\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Waterfall_fiordland-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Waterfall_fiordland.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>However it&#8217;s on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/nouvelle-z%C3%A9lande\/manapouri\/\">Manapouri<\/a> lake <strong>beach<\/strong>, that it&#8217;s also possible to discover in cruise or kayak, that we decided to spend the rest of the day. A <strong>peaceful<\/strong> place to swim, fish, sunbathe and <strong>relax<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Still a very beautiful part of this country that we have been able to discover, the cold and <strong>majestic<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiordland.org.nz\/\">fiordlands<\/a> are also imposing themselves as an absolute must of the South Island. Our only desire after this cruise is to simply <strong>redo<\/strong> it but, this time, in <strong>winter<\/strong> to enjoy the snowy scenery.
