Anyway, we still choosed to discover the city and using this time to make a first <strong>cultural<\/strong> stop, direction the museum.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Dunedin<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Toitu Otago Settlers museum<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1954 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Toitu-Otago-Settlers-museum-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"museum_Dunedin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Toitu-Otago-Settlers-museum-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Toitu-Otago-Settlers-museum-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Toitu-Otago-Settlers-museum-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Toitu-Otago-Settlers-museum.jpg 1040w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is where we will <strong>hang out<\/strong> for a good part of our afternoon.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toituosm.com\/\">entrance is free<\/a> and takes you through several centuries of the city&#8217;s history.<br \/>\nSince the founding families, coming from the other side of the world, to the present day, passing by both technological and mechanical <strong>collector&#8217;s<\/strong> items.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">The city historical center<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1953 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/historic_dunedin-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"historic_dunedin\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Difficult to miss the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunedinnz.com\/visit\/i-site\">historic heart<\/a> of the city, shaped in octagon and surrounded by various religious <strong>buildings<\/strong>, from the first church in the city to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stpauls.net.nz\/\">St. Paul&#8217;s<\/a> <strong>Cathedral<\/strong>. We will unfortunately not have the chance to <strong>visit<\/strong> all the interiors having exceeded the schedules of visits.In any case, the <strong>historic<\/strong> center, lined with various architectures and pubs full of locals, is a <strong>lively and happy<\/strong> district that reconciles a little with the city &#8220;commercial&#8221; zone composed of concrete and unattractive buildings.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>\u00a0Otago museum<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>In the same idea we decided to continue our little <strong>cultural<\/strong> visit while passing by a second museum during our 2nd day, the <a href=\"http:\/\/otagomuseum.nz\/\">Otago<\/a> museum.<\/p>\n<p>We spent a <strong>pleasant<\/strong> moment there amazed, as always, by the quality of the <strong>exhibitions<\/strong> and informations offered while the entrance is free.<\/p>\n<p>We continued our afternoon wandering through the streets and shopping centers of the city before heading to Baldwin Street.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1952 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Baldwin_street_Dunedin-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"Baldwin_street_Dunedin\" width=\"218\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Baldwin_street_Dunedin-263x300.jpg 263w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Baldwin_street_Dunedin.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Baldwin Street<\/span><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>What about this place that would not be <strong>exceptional<\/strong> if it was not the steepest <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baldwin_Street\">residential street<\/a> in the world. A fun stop and become a <strong>must<\/strong> in the city.<\/p>\n<p>In short, whether you decide to climb it by foot or by car it is the <strong>ritual passage<\/strong> in Dunedin.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>De Dunedin \u00e0 Oamaru <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We leave Dunedin towards Oamaru city which will mark the junction to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterburyofnz.com\/\"><strong>Canterbury<\/strong><\/a> region and the famous Mount Cook. On the road, we will make a short detour to go for a <strong>walk<\/strong> about twenty minutes on a white sand beach, to go to contemplate, at low tide, a small natural <strong>arch<\/strong>, dug into the cliff by the sea.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1961 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/natural_cove_Dunedin-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"natural_cove_Dunedin\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Nothing special, but it&#8217;s a <strong>nice<\/strong> stopover before spending the night in the <strong>Warrington<\/strong> Reserve, where the <strong>free campground<\/strong> has been perfectly setted to accommodate vans, tents and caravans. A real plus for this space that attract, because of it, a lot of <strong>visitors<\/strong>. It&#8217;s also another very nice spot to go to discover the local <strong>fauna<\/strong>, namely penguins and sea lions.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Shag point &#038; Katiki point<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1963\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Katiki_point_dunedin-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Katiki_point_dunedin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Katiki_point_dunedin-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Katiki_point_dunedin.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two more <strong>privileged<\/strong> points and all designated to go to meet the wildlife. In <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/otago\/places\/moeraki-area\/shag-point-matakaea\/\">Shag Point<\/a><\/strong> it&#8217;s the little <strong>sea lions<\/strong> we watched playing on the rocks and in the cove below, it would also appear that a <strong>colony<\/strong> of yellow eyes penguins resides not far from the place but that access there is restricted in order to <strong>protect<\/strong> it.\u00a0In any case the contrast of the rock&#8217;s color, a warm <strong>orange<\/strong>, and the clear and <strong>turquoise<\/strong> sea is really splendid, and the place is full of sea lions.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.fr\/Attraction_Review-g2136969-d2645796-Reviews-Katiki_Point_Lighthouse-Moeraki_Otago_Region_South_Island.html\">Katiki point<\/a><\/strong> that the <strong>consecration<\/strong> will finally happen. There, on the beach below, not far from the sea lions and while we were there in the middle of the afternoon, we will finally <strong>meet<\/strong> two yellow eyes <strong>penguins<\/strong>. Finally !<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Moeraki boulders<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moerakiboulders.com\/\">Moeraki<\/a> is a <strong>must<\/strong> in the region, therefore this is also a place always crowded with tourists who came to take the <strong>picture<\/strong>. It&#8217;s true, however, that these consequent rocks have a very <strong>intriguing<\/strong> structure. Almost perfectly round and smooth, there are about fifteen scattered on the beach and accessible at low tide. An <strong>interesting<\/strong> stop but that has absolutely nothing to envy to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/northland\/\">Koutu boulders in <strong>Northland<\/strong><\/a> which have the merit of being less touristics.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Park yourself at the DOC&#8217;s free parking area to avoid the 2$ charge from the cafe parking, you will only have 100m more to walk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1964\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Moeraki_dunedin.jpg\" alt=\"Moeraki_dunedin\" width=\"624\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Moeraki_dunedin.jpg 624w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Moeraki_dunedin-300x126.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Oamaru<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1966\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Steampunk_dunedin-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Steampunk_dunedin\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Steampunk_dunedin-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Steampunk_dunedin.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>We spent a few days in <strong>Oamaru<\/strong> waiting for the rain to stop on Mt Cook. Indeed, once engaged on this <strong>trajectory<\/strong> there are no big cities where to stop to wait for better days.<br \/>\nUnfortunately, we didn&#8217;t do much except spend time at the library, and offer us the visit of the <strong>alternative art<\/strong> &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.steampunkoamaru.co.nz\/\">Steampunk<\/a>&#8221; house. An original concept that would certainly be more <strong>successful<\/strong> if the proposed experiments and exhibitions were maintained, which was, unfortunately, not the case during our passage there, where half of the <strong>elements<\/strong> were no longer working.<br \/>\nFinally we also discovered, between\u00a0 rainy hours, the beautiful and consequent public <strong>garden<\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victorianoamaru.co.nz\/\">Victorian precinct<\/a> that we found super nice. Animations, bars, galleries, <strong>curious<\/strong> exhibitions and exhibitions of curiosities on a <strong>rich<\/strong> architectural environement that ends on the harbor. A charming and <strong>pleasant<\/strong> district that is out of the ordinary, certainly the most interesting part of the city.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1967\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Oamaru_dunedin-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"Oamaru_dunedin\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Oamaru_dunedin-300x208.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Oamaru_dunedin.jpg 444w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To conclude, we can&#8217;t say that we have been <strong>enchanted<\/strong> about this part of the <strong>South Island<\/strong>. We went through Dunedin during school holidays which made it a sad place, and the gray and wet weather didn&#8217;t help. The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/la-peninsule-dotago\/\">Otago peninsula<\/a><\/strong> and the coast towards Oamaru, even if very pleasant, didn&#8217;t touch us more than that, especially after the crossing of the coast of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/les-catlins-otago\/\"><strong>Catlins<\/strong><\/a>.
