So it was after a refueling stop at Christchurch that we gone on the <strong>pretty<\/strong> roads of Arthur&#8217;s Pass to be amzed by eyes and <strong>heart<\/strong> again !<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Castle hill<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2062\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/castlehill_arthurspass-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"castlehill_arthurspass\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/castlehill_arthurspass-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/castlehill_arthurspass.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As there are not so much free campsites on the road, we choose to spend a night on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lake_Lyndon\">lake Lyndon<\/a> shores where the stop is tolerated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The next day we will make our first official stop at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christchurchnz.com\/walk-canterbury\/castle-hill\/\">castle <strong>hill<\/strong><\/a>. Here you can find a limestone blocks accumulation <strong>naturally<\/strong> scattered on the hill, that could make you think about the ruins of an abandoned <strong>castle<\/strong>.\u00a0An unusual and <strong>adventure<\/strong> place, there is no predefined path so we let our footsteps take us on such a rock or in such a corner. Natural arch, climbing path, cavities, labyrinth, all forms a huge natural playground by which one is easily <strong>seduced<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Arthur&#8217;s pass village<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2068\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/waterfall_arthurspass-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"waterfall_arthurspass\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/waterfall_arthurspass-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/waterfall_arthurspass.jpg 403w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>We arrived at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arthurspass.com\/index.php?page=226\">Arthur&#8217;s Pass<\/a> <strong>village<\/strong> in the same day and discovered this very small place perfectly arranged for the <strong>hikers<\/strong> welcome.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Actually, if you don&#8217;t want to be engage in some of the proposed walks, then there is not much to do there.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The most <strong>famous<\/strong> hike is the &#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/canterbury\/places\/arthurs-pass-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/avalanche-peak-route\/\">Avalanche peak<\/a> &#8221; one, it takes about 8 hours to finish it, on a steep and dangerous track. Both of us have been to tired by all the previous days of walking and all these <strong>beautiful<\/strong> hikes already made in the country, so we opted for shorter and easier walks.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Devils Punchbowl waterfall<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We will start with the short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/canterbury\/places\/arthurs-pass-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/devils-punchbowl-walking-track\/\">ascent<\/a> leading to a beautiful 130m high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/canterbury\/places\/arthurs-pass-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/devils-punchbowl-walking-track\/\">waterfall<\/a>, easy to access and always <strong>pleasant<\/strong> it&#8217;s the kind of little walk that gets you in the mood for the next events.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2072\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/arthurspass_walk-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"arthurspass_walk\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/arthurspass_walk-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/arthurspass_walk.jpg 551w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Arthur pass walking track<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>This is the second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/canterbury\/places\/arthurs-pass-national-park\/things-to-do\/tracks\/arthurs-pass-walking-track\/\">walk<\/a> that we choose to make, 3h of an <strong>easy<\/strong> track through the vegetation, along the river and delivering <strong>great<\/strong> views of the surrounding peaks.\u00a0It&#8217;s unfortunately not very well marked, so we never knew where we were in the course of the <strong>hike<\/strong> and when to turn back. Anyway, we still <strong>appreciated<\/strong> the charm of the place even if we didn&#8217;t see the shadow of a mountain parrot, the <strong>Kea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>The death corner<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2082\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/viaduc_arthurspass-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"viaduc_arthurspass\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/viaduc_arthurspass-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/viaduc_arthurspass.jpg 407w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>After our <strong>ride<\/strong> back and a late picnic, we decided to leave the Arthur&#8217;s pass village behind us to continue our on our road. Our next stop was at the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arthurspass.com\/index.php?page=11\"><strong>death corner<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; point of view. The latter is nothing more than the great viaduct, of a height and a vertiginous slope, crossing the <strong>Otira<\/strong> gorges. A sweet blend of surrealism and the science <strong>prowess<\/strong> that is pleasant to see. As a bonus, it&#8217;s on this parking area that we finally met a whole family of curious and players <strong>keas<\/strong>. A surprising stop for an unexpected meeting, a <strong>great<\/strong> time for us.<\/p>\n<p>After this moment, we decided to leave the pass to sleep on the <a href=\"http:\/\/golakebrunner.co.nz\/\">Lake Brunner<\/a> shores. We found there a very <strong>nice<\/strong> free campsite close to the water, we also had the joy to take a <strong>swim<\/strong> in the lake before the night. The next morning, we hiked on the lake heights before continuing toward our next stop, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaikoura.co.nz\/\">Kaikoura<\/a>, via the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/hanmersprings.co.nz\/\">Hanmer spring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2087 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Kea_arthurspass-300x283.jpg\" alt=\"Kea_arthurspass\" width=\"224\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Kea_arthurspass-300x283.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Kea_arthurspass.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We really enjoyed this little <strong>bonus<\/strong> that we wanted to accord to us in the Arthur&#8217;s Pass National Park. Even if we didn&#8217;t make the well-known big hikes of the park, we took a lot of <strong>pleasure<\/strong> to discover, once again, this very beautiful and <strong>privileged<\/strong> environment.
