The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayofplentynz.com\/discover\/mt-maunganui\">Mount<\/a> is located in the <strong>well-to-do neighborhoods<\/strong> of Tauranga. The climb to the top is a bit painful but short enough to be within <strong>everyone&#8217;s reach<\/strong>. You will also meet some great <strong>sportsmen<\/strong> who make it by running, locals who come to make their daily <strong>walk<\/strong> and backpackers who hunt the most beautiful <strong>pictures<\/strong>. At the summit you will discover a breathtaking <strong>view<\/strong> over the entire bay of Tauranga and more. A nice walk not to miss if you are in the area, the better way to enjoy it is to plan to go on the top at <strong>dawn<\/strong> to contemplate the sunrise over the sea.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>McLaren Park<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<div id=\"attachment_785\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-785\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-785 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mc-Laren-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"McLaren Park - Tauranga\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mc-Laren-300x226.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mc-Laren.jpg 568w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-785\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Black Swan &#8211; McLaren Park<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To the south of Tauranga, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayofplentynz.com\/things-to-do\/tracks-trails\/parks-gardens\/mclaren-falls-park-15043235\">park<\/a> is a starting point for several small <strong>hikes<\/strong>. The setting is very pleasant and you can quite possibly plan a picnic there, a barbecue is on disposal, or an afternoon of lazing around. For the curious, the park contains a <strong>small waterfall<\/strong> lost in the middle of the bush, with simple access, it is not very impressive. Finally for the braves, several hiking trails, more or less long, are <strong>accessibles<\/strong> and very well marked. It is also possible to be unclosed in the park at night <strong>to sleep<\/strong> there, for few euros that the guard will come to take. You can borrow the path leading to the waterfall at night if you wish to have the chance to meet <strong>glow worms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Summer hills and Papamoa hills<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<div id=\"attachment_789\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-789\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-789 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/summer-hill1-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"sunset - Tauranga\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/summer-hill1-300x193.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/summer-hill1.jpg 508w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-789\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Summer hill&#8217;s sunset<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two small hills accessible by foot or by road, the environement remains simple.<br \/>\n&#8220;Summer hills&#8221; propose a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerhilltrails.co.nz\/trails\">bike park<\/a> at its summit, for enthusiasts of mountain biking or downhill biking, nothing magical, just enough for a small <strong>ride<\/strong>.<br \/>\nBoth summits offer an interesting <strong>view<\/strong> on Papamoa beach including\u00a0\u00a0 Maunganui Mount and Tauranga. The panorama reaches its full potential at <strong>sunset<\/strong> due to the intensity of the colors that are revealed.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-797 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Kaiate-Falls.jpg\" alt=\"Kaiate Falls - Tauranga\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Kaiate-Falls.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Kaiate-Falls-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Kaiate falls<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>To reach the beautiful waterfall of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayofplentynz.com\/things-to-do\/on-the-water\/swimming-spots\/kaiate-falls-15043258\">Kaiate<\/a>, you have to take a <strong>steep<\/strong> path. Just go down the stairs to enter into the fresh bush and enjoy this <strong>shady<\/strong> fall. A little walk, a bit <strong>steep<\/strong>, where you have to think to take a little jacket. However, for the amateurs of sensations it is also the possibility of offering a few <strong>dips<\/strong> in the icy water. Two strings are, unofficially, attached to either side of the waterfall to <strong>jump<\/strong> into the water hole at its base. The less sensitive to cold can come to have fun without problem.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Papamoa Beach<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The immensity of a <strong>white sand<\/strong> beach swept by the wind in front of the expanse of the sea. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayofplentynz.com\/discover\/papamoa\">Papamoa beach <\/a>is one of the big spots around Tauranga very appreciated by local people. Pleasant for <strong>surfing<\/strong>, swimming, walking, you can also contemplate the sunrise and sunset over the sea with views on Maunganui Mount. Very <strong>pleasant<\/strong> on any occasion, clean and full of <strong>seashells<\/strong>, space doen&#8217;t miss. However it remains full of people during summer time. Fishing lovers will also find their happiness in <strong>fish<\/strong> and shellfish.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_806\" style=\"width: 980px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-806\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-806 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Papamoa-beach.jpg\" alt=\"Papamoa beach - Tauranga\" width=\"970\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Papamoa-beach.jpg 970w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Papamoa-beach-300x90.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Papamoa-beach-768x230.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-806\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Papamoa beach<\/p><\/div>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Omanawa falls<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>A spot giving view on a beautiful <a href=\"http:\/\/waterfalls.co.nz\/waterfalls-by-region\/79-new-zealand-waterfalls\/north-island\/bayofplenty\/100-omanawa-falls\">waterfall<\/a> that has been closed and needs to be <strong>rehabilitated<\/strong>. The access to the view from the top has been unofficially reopened, by careful cutting of the protective fences. However for those who love <strong>adventure<\/strong> there is always a way to go further. So we did not just take advantage of the view from above but we found an <strong>access<\/strong>, a bit dangerous, passing <strong>through woods<\/strong> to reach the base of the waterfall.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_809\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-809\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-809 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Omanawa-falls.jpg\" alt=\"Omanawa falls - Tauranga\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Omanawa-falls.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Omanawa-falls-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-809\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Omanawa falls<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The least risky, arrived at the grid, is <strong>to turn back up<\/strong> towards the parking, a few meters on the left it is possible to find an access through the woods which is <strong>much safer<\/strong> than climbing the cliff and the iron gate which block the access.<br \/>\nReaching the waterfall requires a bit of <strong>dexterity<\/strong>, the path is steep and extremely <strong>slippery<\/strong> and there are three ladders, in a state which leaves to be desired, <strong>to cross<\/strong>. But the show is worth it and for the ones less cold sensitive they can access to the <strong>cave<\/strong> behind the fall, accessible only by swimming. A <strong>very nice<\/strong> hike that we did with several people and gave us as much anxiety than laugh.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Otanewainuku park<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-813 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Otanewainuku-park-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Otanewainuku park - Tauranga\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Otanewainuku-park-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lecoeurelephant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Otanewainuku-park.jpg 520w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A pretty <strong>unknown<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/bay-of-plenty\/places\/otanewainuku-forest\/\">park<\/a> so, well preserved. You can find there a lot of starting for hiking from 2h30 of walk to 6h. We had the pleasure of doing the walk of 2h30 whose goal is <strong>to reach<\/strong> a pretty little waterfall through the bush and undergrowth. A <strong>peaceful<\/strong> and pleasant place. The walk we chose had no difficulties and we really enjoyed it, a <strong>breath of fresh air<\/strong> in our daily at the kiwi fruit packhouse. For the lucky ones, know that the park is considered as protected area where it&#8217;s possible to meet the <strong>legendary<\/strong> bird, the kiwi.
